Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is a space specifically for pregnant mommas.

It offers physical, mental, and emotional benefits that can contribute to healthier and more comfortable pregnancy and childbirth. But that isn’t my favorite part. It is a safe space for mommas to come together, build friendships, vent about aches and pains and people, cheer each other on for their small or large victories. Most importantly, you get to take the journey of pregnancy together.

Prenatal yoga classes are held in private or small group settings. Please inquire about the current small group offering held at Empowered Yoga in Wintersville, Ohio.

What does a prenatal yoga class look like?

Each class and instructor is different. Our weekly class mixes movement with restorative postures. We spend roughly 30 minutes moving and 30 minutes restoring our bodies through supportive postures and breathing. If you’ve never done yoga, that is okay! Experience is not necessary and I will not be asking you to do any crazy pose.

In my class, you can expect to learn breathing techniques that will carry over into labor and birth. You can expect to learn how to identify your pelvic floor muscles and use your breath and some gentle movements to strengthen those muscles. You can expect counter pressure and gentle massage while in supportive postures.

Why add prenatal yoga to your birth preparation?

It helps alleviate common pregnancy discomforts such as back pain, sciatica, and swollen ankles

It can improve flexibility, balance, and circulation.

It promotes relaxation and helps reduce stress levels through guided breathing and meditation techniques.

It takes you through positions that are useful during labor and birth

It can enhance your endurance and coping mechanisms during labor by practicing specific breathing techniques.

It creates a sense of connection between you and your baby

It encourages you to be more in tune with your body as it continues to change. This can lead to better decision-making during pregnancy and labor.

Regular practice can strengthen the pelvic floor, deep core muscles, and other muscle groups that are crucial for post birth recovery.

It fosters emotional well-being by providing a safe and nurturing space to acknowledge and process these feelings.
